  1. Take 1cup, toor dall
  2. Take 4cups water
  3. Make ready required salt and turmeric

  12. Take 1/4 tsp raw rice
  13. Make ready 1/2tsp , urad dall
  14. Get 8 Red chili whole,
  15. Make ready 3tsp coriander seeds
  16. Make ready 2/4tsp, asofeotida
  17. Prepare 1 tsp chana dal
  18. Get 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  19. Get as required tamarind 1 lemon size

Sambar is made in South Indian homes almost every day and is served at Tiffin Centres and restaurants too. How to Make Spicy Sambar Masala. Dry roast dhania seeds, jeera seeds and coconut powder on a low fire until the coconut powder turns medium brown. Dry roast the rest of the ingredients until the chana dal turns light brown.

Instructions to make Spicy sambar:
  1. First wash and soak the dal for one hour. Then cook for 1 or 2 whistles till the dall is cooked soft. Mash and keep it aside
  2. Then fry all the spices with out oil and grind to a coarse powder.
  3. In the same frying pan pour oil pop mustard seeds. Then add chopped onion and saute it well. Add tomato followed by brinjal and carrot. Then add this to the dall and cook till the vegetable soft.
  4. Then prepare tamarind essence and add it to the dall and boil it for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the spice powder. Add little water if required. Boil for two minutes and turn off the flame
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. This sambar is suitable for idly, dosa, pongal and rava dosa

Now, mix all the ingredients and allow them to cool. Grind them into a fine powder. For the extra spicy taste and to the flavours of Sambar, you can use the Garam Masala Powder along with the other spice powders and condiments.
